Gray Matter: The Hottest Trend in Cabinetry Design

Sponsored Content provided by Fred Kumpel - Owner, Strickland’s Blinds, Shades & Shutters/Strickland’s Closets & Home Organization

If you’ve been following home décor trends for the past few years, you may have noticed it.

Gray—it’s everywhere.

Gray walls, gray floors, gray furniture, gray cabinets. At Strickland’s Closets & Home Organization, we offer cabinetry in 36 different finishes, but in the past few years, gray has become one of our hottest sellers.

Why is gray all the rage? What’s the appeal?

What’s The Deal with Gray?

In the past few years, home design took a sharp turn away from what used to be considered the classic neutrals: rich browns, soft creams, grounding blacks, and bright whites. It seemed there was a call for something a little more subtle.

In came gray.

As a neutral, it feels softer than black and white and more contemporary than brown. It comes in warm and cool tones. For pizazz, you can amp gray up to silver. And it pairs nicely with other hot interior design colors: bright yellow and greens, pastel oranges and blues, bold reds, and even other neutrals, such as black, white and cream.
It was just the update interior designers - and homeowners - had been looking for.

Gray Cabinets: The New Neutral

Gray started out as a wall color and a furniture color - think sleek gray couches and pale, shimmery gray walls. But it soon caught on as a cabinetry color, too.

Why? Because cabinetry is the perfect way to tie a room together.

Most families have storage cabinets throughout their home - from the pantry to the closet to the media center to the garage. And gray looks great in all those rooms. Like any good neutral backdrop, gray anchors a room, while imbuing it with an ineffable sense of sophistication.

How Many Ways Can You Say Gray?

Gray color names are typically based in nature. At Strickland’s Closets & Home Organization, one of our best-selling grays is “River Rock” (featured here). Yet, all of our gray hues are perfectly suited to a sophisticated coastal look.
Other color finishes include:
  • Breakwater - a pure, warm gray
  • Marquette - a subtle gray with a natural grain finish
  • Driftwood - a mid-tone-gray with a natural grain finish
  • Mackinac - a richer, more dramatic gray with a natural grain finish
  • Fort - a solid, smoky gray with a natural grain finish
If 2017 is your year to go gray, head over to Strickland’s Closets & Home Organization’s showroom to speak to one of our designers and see our neutral gray color palette – a trend that’s here to stay!
